"I don't know about truths. A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells, the less you know."

Last night I watched this movie, The Brothers Bloom. I think that this poster speaks volumes about the movies, but I will shed a little light on why this is one of new favorite movies.

I don't know what it is with movies about con men. Movies like The Sting, Matchstick Men, Shade, Rounders, and now The Brothers Bloom always draw me in. I am always fascinated by the twists and turns of the plot lines, the constant questioning of who you can trust, wondering who is conning who, but most importantly the characters. They all are so debonair and charismatic. Not to mention brilliant. They always surprise me with how well they plan out every move and how they know how to anticipate others. I definitely suggest you check this movies out. Here is a little synopsis:

The Brothers Bloom is a movie about two brothers who have been con men since they were kids. (By the way young stephen is played by Max Records of "Where the Wild Things Are")Stephen is the mastermind, for who the intricacy of the story used in the con is as important as the positive outcome of the swindle. Bloom is the main character of Stephen's stories, the character he considers the anti-hero. As adults, they travel the world and never enlist the same people twice in their cons, except for their consistent sidekick, the mysterious and primarily silent Bang Bang, a Japanese woman who just appeared in their lives one day and who has a penchant for blowing things up. As Bloom hits his mid-thirties, he wants to quit the business. He is losing his own identity to the characters he portrays. Stephen talks him into one last con, the mark to be the eccentric, lonely but beautiful New Jersey heiress, Penelope Stamp(Rachel Weisz). Penelope "collects hobbies" as she calls it. When she sees someone's hobby, she collects books about it and teaches herself. She does everything from juggling chainsaws to making pinhole cameras out of watermelons. As the brothers go through their final con on Penelope, three main problems stand in their way. First, the brothers' former mentor and now arch enemy, Diamond Dog, tries to exact his long awaited revenge on the brothers. Second, Penelope may end up being more unpredictable than all their former marks. And third, Bloom falls for Penelope. All along you wonder who is conning who?
